INFLUENTIAL ICON: ALEXA CHUNG

Fashion is an art form that dominates my life (this is probably obvious through the content of my blog). One of my major influences within the fashion industry is Alexa Chung. She began as a model but went on to become a fashion journalist. Fashion journalism is a media that I would love to pursue. Alexa Chung’s broad success within this industry is such a large inspiration to me. She has interviewed many faces within the fashion world and she has also contributed to the renowned British Vogue. Vogue is one of the main fashion publications in the world so working for British Vogue is such a dream of mine. As well as her success in journalism, she is also a prominent style icon. Her style is faultless. Some may argue that a simple style is boring, but she puts her clothes together in a way that makes basic look chic! Her fashion definitely has a classic British essence about it; from skinny jeans and duster coats, to smart dolly dresses and heels. 

In this look, Chung's ivory dress makes her looks feminine and somewhat angelic. However, matched with these black pointed heels, dominance and seductiveness is asserted. The masculine structure of her long grey coat reinforces her dominance. Who wouldn’t admire a powerful lady? This effortless monochrome outfit is finished off with a red lip and complimented by her warm brown hair. As I said, faultless.

Oh, and did I mention, she has also written a book. What can't she do? As I am a keen writer, the fact that Alexa Chung has written a book just adds to the list of reasons why she is such a big influence to me. Her book gives insight into her childhood, relationships and fashion influences. I definitely recommend it. The cover is attractive too!

ALL BLACK

Hey Beauties! I recently went to London again for a uni open day. I hope to do a uni course in journalism next year, fingers crossed I get accepted! Anyway, as I was in London, I obviously went shopping. It was raining buckets over Oxford Street and I got soaking wet, but I did pick up a couple of nice pieces. One thing that I bought was a pair of black Caterpillar boots. I have wanted Timberlands/Caterpillars for years. I always used to say to myself that when I get a job, my first paycheck would go on one of these pairs of boots. I have been working for ages now so I thought it was time to buy a pair. I did look at the Timberlands but decided I'd go for a pair of black Caterpillar boots instead. Here is how I styled them!

Black is a tone that is timeless. It will never go out of fashion and it is such a versatile colour to wear. As someone who loves wearing black clothes, I thought it was fitting to team the boots with an all black outfit, especially now in the Autumn when it's acceptable. The top that I'm wearing is perfect for A/W. The high-neck keeps you toasty warm. Now that the winter weather is attacking us, it's necessary to wear a cardigan. The varied tones from this cardigan makes the outfit a little more interesting. Black skinny jeans are also an essential and they go amazingly with this outfit. Finally, I added a black bag, as I cannot leave the house without one.

DAY TO NIGHT

My American Apparel high-waist jeans have been in my wardrobe for a couple of years now, but, to me, they are a timeless piece. The 1990s is my favourite era. I find the music, culture, and of course, the fashion so inspiring. So it's no surprise that these jeans are a dominant piece in my wardrobe. On my recent trip to London, I bought this velvet body from Topshop. It is a beautiful piece that is so versatile. You can where it as a lingerie piece or as a day top, whatever you fancy! In this look, I wore it as a day top and I think it looks fabulous paired with these Mom-style jeans. Paired with the right accessories, this outfit can be worn in the day or night. Here is an idea how I would style it.

For me, London is the most beautiful city in the world (well, out of the city's I have been to). It is such a diverse place and I take inspiration from the different cultures, fashion and art. One of my favourite things to do in London, apart from seeing all the amazing scenery, is shopping! Yes, that's probably not too surprising considering I'm a young female who is obsessed with fashion. I feel like the saying "shop til you drop' was made for me.

 The first place that I went to was Brick Lane. Brick Lane is one of the most inspiring parts of London in my opinion. If you love art, then I definitely recommend going there. There is so many creative art pieces and a large range of vintage shops and markets.

 While in Brick Lane, I went into a cute little underground vintage market. Sounds pretty indie right? It was. It was filled with vintage clothes, trinkets and of course, vinyls. The vinyls came in a massive range of genres, from rock to reggae. But of course, me being me, I delved straight into soul. Just need to invest in a record player now!

 Although I absolutely love Brick Lane, I couldn't stay there too long. Next stop was Oxford St, and of course Urban Outfitters was on the list of shops I needed to go to. If there was one shop that could sum up my style, it would definitely be Urban Outfitters! Everything they have is so beautiful and they've got an amazing set of books.
